Cotton textile industry had developed around Calcutta because :
(i) The port of Calcutta provides excellent facilities for the import of raw cotton and textile machinery.
(ii) A humid climate facilities the spinning of yarn of finer counts.
(iii) The region is served by excellent network of roads and railways. Two centers of cotton textile in Tamil Nadu are : Coimbatore and Madurai.
