  • The rms and mean value of half-wave and full-wave rectifier outputs are as follows :

(i) Half wave rectifier :

(ii) Fun wave rectifier:

  • The part of the impedance in which the phase difference between the current and emf is π / 2 is called reactance.
  • If the current lags behind emf by π / 2, the reactance is called inductive.
  • If the emf lags behind the current by π / 2, the reactance is called capacitive.
  • If the emf is in phase with the current, the circuit is called resistive.
  • Hot wire ammeter and voltmeter can be used both in a.c. as well as d.c. circuits.
  • In an a.c. circuit, the electric energy is dissipated in the resistance alone.
  • Series resonant circuit is called accept or circuit as its impedance is minimum at resonance and current is very large. That is it readily accepts the current.
  • The non-sinusoidal complex waveform of a.c. is obtained when a number of harmonics superpose on each other.
