Each of these question contains two statements : Statement I (Assertion) and Statement II (Reason). Each of these questions also has four alternative choices, only one of which is correct answer. You have to select the correct choice in the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d) in the given below

(a) Statement I is true, Statement ll is true; Statement ll is not a correct explanation of Statement I

(b) Statement I is true, Statement II is false

(c) Statement I is false, Statement ll is true

(d) Statement I is true, Statement ll. is true; Statement ll is a correct explanation of Statement I

Best answer

The correct option is (b) Statement I is true, Statement II is false.

Explanation:

Suppose that the tennis ball bounces with a velocity u. It will go up, till its velocity becomes zero. If h is the height up to which it rises on the hill, then

(0)2 - u2 = 2 (-g')h

where, g' is acceleration due to gravity on the hill.

h = u2/2g'

Since, the acceleration due to gravity on the hill (g,) is less than that on earth (effect of height), it follows that tennis ball will bounce higher on hills than in plains.
