In India, there are a total of 13 agricultural research institutes related to crop science research, which is maintained by ICAR (Indian Council for Agricultural Research and Training). There are 5 divisions of ICAR which work for different sections of crop science each headed by its Assistant Director General (ADG). They are (i) Food and Fodder Crops, (ii) Oilseeds and Pulses, (iii) Commercial Crops, (iv) Seeds, (v) Plant Protection.

Some of them are:
1. ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Rajasthan

  1. ICAR- Central Institute for Cotton Research, Maharashtra

  2. ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kasargod

  3. ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla etc.
