Sources: The main sources of carbohydrates are: fruits, milk and milk products, potatoes, carrot, beans, dried peas, honey. jam, cakes, icecream, sugar. candy, drinks and jaggery, bread, cereals and whole pulses (chana, moong, Rajma).
Functions: The primary function of carbohydrates is to provide energy for the body, especially the brain and nervous system. The body breaks down starch and sugars into substances called glucose to be used as energy.
