An energy pyramid is a graphical model of energy flow in a community. The different levels represent different groups of organism that might compose a food chain. Producers bring energy from non-living sources into the community. Energy decreases as you move through the trophic levels from the bottom to the top of the pyramid.

The energy pyramid is used in energy transfer from one organism to another along the food chain. The energy pyramid is always upright and vertical. It depicts that energy is minimum at the highest trophic level and is maximum at the lowest level.
