Why does methanal not give aldol condensation while ethanal gives?
This is because only those compounds which have alpha hydrogen atoms can undergo aldol condensation. Ethanal possesses alpha -hydrogen and Methanal has no alpha hydrogen atoms, hence does not undergo aldol condensation.
