Dams are nowadays referred to as multi-purpose projects. They help to utilize rivers for various uses. Multi-purpose projects have lead to the development and progress in the following fields.
(i) They integrate the development of agriculture.
(ii) They help to raise the village economy.
(iii) They lead to rapid indutrialisation.
(iv) They help in the growth of urban economy.
Thus, dams are called ‘temples of modern India’.
