During electrolysis high voltage is not favoured. Why ?

During electrolysis high voltage is not favoured because the electrolytic conduction increases with rise in temperature, i.e., decrease in resistance. Increase in resistance can only be obtained by applying low voltage during electrolysis.

Thus, only electricity is suitable as reducing agent which provides unlimited amount of energy to break ionic bonds easily.
