What was the basic aim of the ‘Green Revolution’ in India? How did it affect the market economy?

The introduction of HYV seeds and the increased use of fertilisers and irrigation are known collectively as the Green Revolution which was associated with increase in production of food grains in India and make India self-sufficient in foodgrains.

Impact of Green Revolution on market economy

(a) Increased production of foodgrains like wheat and rice: Foodgrain yields continued to increase throughout the 1980s. In financial year 1980, almost 75 per cent of the total cropped area under wheat was sown with HYV seeds.
