Emotional intelligence was first introduced by Salovey and Mayer . They considered emotional intelligence as “the ability to monitor one’ own and other’ emotions, to discriminate among them, and to use the information to guide one’* thinking and actions”. Emotional Quotient (EQ) is used to express emotional intelligence in the same way as IQ is used to express intelligence.
By improving students’ emotional intelligence, it has beneficial effects on their academic achievement. They encourage cooperative behaviour and reduces their antisocial activities, prepares students to face the challenges of life outside the classroom.
