The second mitotic ** is metaphase. In metaphase the following events occur: condensed chromosomes bind (in their centromere region) to the spindle fibres and get concentrated in the middle of the cell; the formation of the mitotic apparatus is completed. Metaphase ends with the breaking of the binding of identical chromatids and then anaphase begins.
