a-Glucose and b-Glucose differ only in the configuration of hydroxy group at C1 and are called anomers and the C1 carbon is called anomeric carbon. The six membered cyclic structure of glucose is called pyranose structural (a-or b-), in analogy with pyrane. The cyclic structure of glucose is more correctly represented by Haworth structure.
