Tortured by doubt and remorse, the postmaster sits in the glow of a charcoal signal that night, waiting for the news of his daughter. He was shocked when he picked up Ali’ letter thinking it to be his letter. Now he understood what Ali must be going through having waited for five years to hear from his daughter. It is rightly said that one feels other’ pain when one goes through it himself/ herself. Postmaster realised the pain of Ali when he himself suffered from the same.
