Humification: Accumulation of dark **** amorphous substances called humus.
Importance of humus:
- Highly resistance to microbial action.
- Undergo decomposition at an extremely slow rate.
- Being colloidal in nature, it serves as reservoir for nutrients.
- Mineralization: The humus is further degraded by some microbes and release of inorganic nutrients occur.
