A round bar of 15 mm in diameter and 150 mm in length is tested in tension for the determination of Young’* modulus. It was observed that change in length was 33 times the change in its diameter. If E = 208 GPa, calculate the modulus of rigidity of the bar. What twisting moment is required to produce an angular twist of 0.15° in the bar?

Best answer

Diameter of the bar, d = 15 mm

Length of the bar, L = 150 mm

Assume that δL is change in length and δd is change in diameter of the bar.
