In case of emergency, a vaccum brake is used to stop the train. How does this brake works ?
Steam at high pressure is made to enter the cylinder of vacuum brake. Due to high velocity, pressure decreases in accordance with Bernoulli’* principle. Due to this decrease in pressure, the piston gets lifted. Consequently brake gets lifted.
