When monochromatic light is incident on a slit 0.02 mm wide, the first diffraction minimum is observed at an angle of 1.5° from the direction of the direct beam. What is the wavelength of the incident light?

λ = a sin θ = 0.02 × 10–3 sin (1.5°) m = 523.5 nm.
