An astronomical unit is the average distance between the earth and the sun. So the distance to the sun is by definition one AU.

One astronomical unit (AU) represents the mean distance between the Earth and our sun. An AU is approximately 93 million miles (150 million km). It’* approximately 8 light-minutes.

One astronomical unit (AU) = 92,955,807 miles (149,597,871 km).

A light year might sound like it' a **** of time, but it' actually not. It' a way of measuring distance. A light year is the distance light travels in one year. Light moves super-fast, so that' a really big distance. One light year is almost six trillion miles.

Light year (lyr)

1 lyr = 9.46 x 1015m

The is the distance travelled by light in a vacuum in one year.

A light year is 5.9 x 1012 miles (approx 6 trillion miles).
