A sphere of radius r and mass m is thrown with velocity v0 in a viscous fluid of viscosity η. How long does the sphere move ?Consider only viscous force acting on the sphere.

Using Newton’* second law of motion,

Now we integrate LHS from v0 to v and RHS fromt = 0 to t.

The velocity decreases exponentially with time; the sphere stops only after infinite time.
