Which methods are usually employed for purifying the following metals? (i) Nickel (ii) Iron. Mention the principles.

*(i) Purification of Nickel by Mond' process:**

Impure Nickel is treated with Carbon monoxide at 60-80°C when volatile nickel carbonyl is formed which decomposes to give pure nickel at 180°C.

(ii) Purification of cast Iron by Hammering or poling process: In this process red hot cast iron ***** are hummered wlth heavy stream hammers when most of the impurities are thrown out and white shining sheets of 99.75% pure iron is obtained which is called wrought iron.
