A kept on a horizontal road, is used to hit a car travelling along the same road away from the gum with a uniform speed of 72 kmh-1.The car is at a distance of 500 m from the when the *** is fired at an angle of 45° with the horizontal. Find (i) the distance of the car from the gum when the shell hits it, and (ii) the speed of the projection of the shell from the gum.

The time of the flight of the shell and the distance travelled by the car (range of the shell) are equal.

And distance of car from the *** = range
