The following are a collection of verses by the poet Biharilal.
1. In the first verse, the poet Bihari says that gold is a hundred times more intoxicating than thorn apple or datura. This is because only when one eats thorn apple or datura does one get intoxicated; however, just upon acquiring gold a person becomes intoxicated. The intoxication of wealth drives people crazy.

  1. The outward presence is useless. According to Biharilal, *** is pleased by devotion and sincerity, and not by outward pretences. In this verse, the poet expresses his thoughts about this – chanting, telling the beads, vermilion and other outward pretences

will not do us any service – it will not bring us any closer to . As long as the mind is crude and immature, all the outward pretences are useless. This is because is pleased only by true devotion of the mind.

  1. One of the female devotees is describing Lord Krishna – when the Lord puts the flute to his lips, it takes on the colour of the lips, the colour of the eyes and the colour of the yellow cloth that the Lord is wearing. Due to this, the green **** flute takes on the multi-**** nature of the rainbow (the bow of Indra). The lips are red, the eyes are and white while the cloth is pink in colour. Under the influence of these colours, it is quite natural for the green ** flute to appear multi-***.

  2. The poet says that in this world there are many forms and sizes of water bodies like wells, streams, rivers and lakes. However, that which quenches one’ thirst is as good as an ocean for that person. The intended meaning is that, in the world, there are many donors both big and small. However, the donor who satisfies a person’ need is the greatest donor and is like an ocean for that person.

  3. This verse can be understood in two ways – pertaining to beauty or pertaining to devotion. One meaning is that the companion of Lord Krishna is saying to the Lord – Oh Lord, my love for you is so wonderful that nobody can understand it. The more it drowns in this darkness (Lord Krishna was dark-complexioned), the brighter it becomes. The other meaning is that a devotee is singing praises of the Lord – Oh Lord, my enamoured mind cannot be understood by anyone. The more it drowns in devotion to the Lord, the purer it becomes.

  4. The poet says that when there is an increase in the level of water, which is like treasure to plants, the lotus (which is like the human mind) root begins to grow longer. However, when water levels begin to recede, the root of the lotus does not diminish. It stays as long as it has grown, even if it dries up completely. When the water level increases, the longer root enables the lotus flower to float on top of the surface of the water. However, when the water level reduces, the length of the root *** the same.

  5. The poet says that at appropriate times, all the things in the world appear beautiful. In reality, no object is either beautiful or ugly. Depending on how much we ** an object at a given point in time, it appears that much more beautiful at that time.

  6. The poet says that all scholarly men, sages and great thinkers say that kings, ** and sin – only these three trouble the weak. What is implied is that weakness is the greatest evil. If a strong person commits a sin, it is not even considered a sin. In this manner, even kings and ** only strike and prey upon the weak. The strong are never pushed down by anyone.
