In this poem, the poet Kunwar Narayan describes his feelings towards a tree. The poet treated the tree as a friend. In this poem, one can find a description of human feelings.

The poet says that when he returned home the last time, the large ‘watchkeeper’ tree, which could always be found outside the main door of his house, was no longer to be seen. The exterior of the tree was made of old skin (bark), it was a rough and hardy tree and its exterior was covered with rough wrinkles and dust and dirt. Its dry branches were like rifles, and it had a turban of leaves and flowers. Its feet had rough and wrinkled shoes (roots) but it had a very strong base. Where did this tree go?

In the sun, in the rain and in summer and winter, the tree would always be alert in its khaki uniform, and would always ask from afar who was trespassing. The poet would reply that it was a friend (the poet himself) and would then rest a while under the tree’ shade. In reality, the poet always feared that some mortal **** would visit them. He was always aware of the fact that they would have to prepare themselves to face these enemies.

The house has to be saved from thieves, the town from rioters, and the country from its enemies. The rivers have to be saved from becoming rivulets, the air has to be saved from smoke, food has to be saved from poison and the jungles have to be saved from becoming deserts, and humanity has to be saved from turning into a jungle.
