Growth oriented approach to **** reduction:*

It is the first Government’ approach to ** reduction. This approach was based on the expectation that the effects of economic growth would spread to all sections of society and trickle down to the poor section also. This approach was the major focus of planning in the 1950’ and early 1960’.

It was felt that rapid industrial development and transformation of agriculture through green revolution would benefit the under developed regions and the more backward sections of the community. But this approach was ***. The benefits of economic growth has not trickled down to the poor.

The green revolution exacerbated the disparities regionally and between large and small farmers. There was unwillingness and inability to redistributed lands.
