The dual objectives of federalism include:

u200b1. To maintain unity of the country. In a country like India where diverse population reside safeguarding and promoting unity among these diverse group becomes the prime duty of a federal government. The interests and needs of these groups have to be fulfilled.

  1. To accommodate regional diversity to maintain the spirit of unity and integrity.

These are the two aspects for a government to run under federalism.

The government must agree to share powers amongst states equally.

Divide and rule policy reduces the burden on the central government hence allowing the State government to exercise their powers.
