Properties of ionic compounds:

  1. Ionic compounds are solids & are somewhat hard because of strong force of attraction between the positive and negative ions.

  2. Ionic compounds have high melting and boiling points.

  3. Ionic compounds are generally soluble in water & insoluble in solvents, such as kerosene, petrol etc.,

  4. In solution, they conduct electricity because of the presence of moving ions. Where as in the solid state they do not conduct electricity.
