Constitution of India being supreme law of the land, provides inarguably, the division of power between Union and State. The power-sharing arrangement as provided under the Constitution lays down that the State government are not subordinate to the Central Government, i.e., State Government are given autonomy. So in order to make any changes in this power-sharing arrangement, the Constitution has to go through the amendment process, which in the case of Constitution is complicated.

For e.g., Those provisions which relate to the federal structure of the polity, it can be amended by a special majority and also with the ratification ( consent) of half of the state legislatures by a simple majority.
