The earlier rulers of Karnataka, the Kadambas, Hoysalas, Chalukyas and the Kings of Vijayanagara have left behind very beautiful sculptural wonders. They have now become places of historical importance. The prominent historical places are Hampi, Belur, Halebidu, Somanathpur, Badami, Pattadakal, Aihole, Gol Gumbaz of Bijapur, Lakkundi, Banavasi, Mysore, Srirangapatna.
