“My country, my mother’ is a real story of the battle of 1965 fought between India and Pakistan. It was peaceful evening. It was calm every where and there were no symptoms of war. Surprisingly. The ***** troops attacked on India. The soldiers on leave were called back. Indian Army officer (major) was on leave. Meanwhile he was called back by his regiment. He touched the feet of his mother before leaving Mother became emotional and she embraced her son. The mother blessed her son “My son now the utmost duty of every Indian is to save our country, go and fulfill your duty.

Remember that we Indians always have a tradition to with a bullet on our chest and not on our back”. The battle was terribly intense. It was very important to cross the battlefront of the Ichogil canal, to acquire this place was not easy. It was very risky. Immediately a brave army officer took this responsibility. He was more there than who returned from the village with blessings of his mother. Major was highly intoxicated with patriotic feelings. He was leading very enthusiastically towards the ** and was destroying the ** tanks. The heart shuddering sound of bullets and bombardment could be heard all around. He was being ordered to retreat but he did not stop. During his mission, he remembered his mother’ word, ‘Indians always have a tradition to with a bullet a chest and not on the back’. These words were inspiring him. He was severely injured. He was deeply suffering from pain, still, he didn’t bother about it.

Immediately he was brought to the military hospital of Amritsar, with many bullets on his chest. When the officers asked him for his last wish, the Major replied smilingly. “Please pass on the message to my mother that, your son has faced the bullets on chest only and not on the back.” This brave officer of the Indian Army was Major Asharam Tyagi the major fulfilled his mother’* words and sacrificed his life to defend his motherland. The lamp has extinguished but its eternal light will show the way to patriots till many centuries.
