The costly rituals of the vedic ** was beyond the reach of common people. The rituals were conducted by reciting Sanskrit shlokas and common people were unable to understand them. Thus people felt a need for a simple path to salvation which could be explained and understood in their own language. Moreover the varna system disintegrated the society and Kshatriyas grew powerful. The Kshatriyas were instrumental for new religions like Buddhism and Jainism to emerge. ‘
