The process of transmission of characters was established by Mendel when the studied the inheritance of seven characters in Pisum sativum (Pea). Mendel made certain postulate that led to the principles of inheritance. He showed that thesa characters are controlled by unit factors later called genes. That exist in pairs or alleles.
